"Who can we trust?" - Micah 3-5

In Micah 3-5 we learn to interpret the coming of Assyria...and then Babylon, not as an unfortunate situation, or an unprovoked attack. What we see is that God Himself is dealing with the abuse and misuse of those in places to oversee His people.

Unfortunately, when the leaders and those in authority are corrupt and acting in self interest, everyone is hurt. This is true of families, churches, and nations alike.

God will take away what they have utterly mishandled. But then He Himself will eventually take charge of things. Our history is one of war and conflict, of self interested love of power and money. Mankind cannot rule over himself.

This is the passage in which we read about "swords being beat into plowshares", and we also read about a specific Ruler who doesn't come from Jerusalem, but from Bethlehem!

This is a rich exposé against failed leadership, and if you want to know what the real plan for our planet is in the future......then...

Micah 1-2

"The Breaker" - Micah 1-2 I have to confess that, while we will still be looking at the minor prophets, I have switched "M's" on you. Huh? I had planned on the Book of Malachi, but have been oddly steered to the prophet Micah! There are only seven chapters, the first three of which we should be able to move through tonight. Micah, along with Isaiah, were serving God as Assyria was threatening a conquest of Israel. He hits hard, pointing the finger at the political and religious abuse of power. But Micah will challenge his audience to also look past the current events to see "the rest of the story". That's good wisdom for our day. But what about this "breaker" thing? What, or who, is a breaker and what does that have to do with Micah? Better yet, what does that have to do with us? I can only promise that you might see something tonight that you have missed before, because you have neglected the Book of Micah! If you need some hope, and I think we all do, then.... ....Come and See.... Steve

Micah 6-7

"What does God really want?" - Micah 6-7 We will wrap up the Book of Micah. It has been a hard-hitting exposè of the sins and corruption in Israel and Judah that have brought God's disciple. Yes, the destruction of Jerusalem is coming. Yes, Micah describes the empty religious practices that have led to the corruption of politics, government, and have even infected family life! But...in the middle of all of this, Micah gives us one of the clearest and most concise summaries of God's heart and desire for mankind. What was said to them could not be more true for the church today, when people have a veneer of religiosity but it has failed to impact the way they see and treat others. The engraving pictured above is a quote of that truth from Micah 6:8. Can you guess where that is located? Have you ever seen it? What did it mean for the people Micah was ministering to?
