"This, or.....That!" - Hebrews 12:12-17

There are three "imperatives" -- things that we are all supposed to do -- followed by three "or else's". My bible says "lest" and it serves as a negative option.

In other words......do "this", or you will end up doing "that". And "that" is not a good thing!

We will pick up the racing theme from the beginning of the chapter, and get some practical advice for healing and wholeness!

What is "this"? What is "that"? By now you know better than than to ask. You need to...

"Loose Ends" - Heb 13:17-25 We are in the home stretch of 2024, and we will be tying up loose ends before the New Year, we have one final section of chapter 13 to tie up the loose ends of this letter. Chapter 13 has been highly relational, with instructions regarding a variety of relationships. One of those relationships that is discussed more than others in this chapter is the relationship of the church to it's leadership. Have you ever wondered how decisions get made at CCF? Have you wondered why you don't vote on a budget? Who calls the shots and how should you feel about that? In times of deep distrust of authority and leadership, and plenty of angst that has surrounded the morality of governmental leadership, how does this work in the church? This, among other things, is what we will discuss as we tie up loose ends of this last chapter. So, if you want to finish strong, then you should... ...VIEW and SEE!!! Steve

"Consistency" - Heb 13:7-16 We are only two sermons away from finishing the book of Hebrews! And chapter 13 offers the practical, day-to-day application of all we have already learned. It is amazing how much things in our world have changed in the last 10....20....50 years. Fifty years ago, you could gas for .73 cents/gallon. Twenty years ago we still had to get movies at Blockbuster. And even just ten years you couldn't say, "Alexa, what is the weather for today in Palmyra, VA". Oh, and no Apple Watch either. I think we also see changes in many, many other areas of life in America, and on planet Earth. How would you answer the question, "Is the world changing too quickly for you?" Yes or no? If you say, "Yes", then you are in good company with about 8 out of every 10 people agreeing with you. How do we manage to find "rest for our souls" in a rapidly changing world that affects even our spiritual or church lives? How important is consistency for human relationships? That's what is on the menu for this message, so come hungry, and... ...VIEW and SEE!!! Steve

"It is Safe to Trust Jesus" - Hebrews 1 We begin our journey through the book of Hebrews, and in doing so we will consider if we can feel and be safe in trusting Jesus! There are a few "unknowns" about the book of Hebrews. Who wrote it? Who was the original intended audience? In what year was it written? But what we do know is that the author and the audience were believers with a strong grasp on the OT scriptures and practices. There are a lot of things that will appear as "common knowledge" to the original readers that might take a little explanation for us. So, it is assumed the audience were Jewish believers in Jesus. The challenge they faced is that, in the hard times they were facing, they were losing faith in Jesus and going back to putting their trust back in some of their old ways. After all....God had given them these things to begin with, right? Hebrews is an utterly compelling argument that it is safe -- safer than anything else -- to trust Jesus. And tomorrow we will see why we can trust what He says! So... ...VIEW and SEE Steve
