Gospel Partnership & God's Provision

Paul closes this letter by acknowledging receipt of the gift the Philippian church sent for his support. He celebrates the gospel fellowship and partnership that it represents while also making it clear that his contentment and his strength are grounded in, and come from, Christ. In this message, Pastor Ben urges Calvary Christians to ground their contentment in the unchanging Christ instead of ever-changing circumstances. Along the way, we are encouraged to pursue a life of abundant gospel generosity.

With Thanksgiving

In this text, Paul again embodies joy personally and exhorts others to rejoice corporately. Along the way, he addresses perhaps the central issue that undermined Christian joy in his day and undermines Christ-exalting joy in our http://day..that is worry and anxiety. And Paul gives us some of the best advice that we will ever get on dealing with anxiety so that we can live our faith out loud with confidence, consistency, and unshakeable joy. In this message, Pastor Ben reminds us of the urgency and centrality of joy and celebration in the Christian life. And we will consider practical steps on how we can both achieve and maintain that joy in a world drowning in anxiety and worry.

Guarding the Gospel

Paul challenged the Philippians to guard the gospel by delighting in Christ rather than in the works of the Law or inherited privilege. In this message, Pastor Ben summons all Calvary Christians to experience and pursue unshakeable joy in the Lord by contemplating four urgent themes of gospel delight as Paul lays them out in chapter 3.

Two Worthy Examples

After the famous Christ hymn of Phil. 2.5-11 where Jesus is identified as the supreme example of humility, Paul now points to two further examples of humility and selfless dedication to the cause of Christ and His church. In this message, Pastor Ben challenges Calvary Christians to embody that same selfless and sacrificial service to Christ and His church by contemplating two examples of Christlike humility in the text. Worthy of the Gospel

In this majestic passage of Scripture, Paul encourages Philippian believers to stand fast in their faith and live lives worthy of the gospel despite external pressures and even in the face of internal divisions. In what is the most spectacular five or six verses ever written down anywhere or any time, Paul points to Jesus as the supreme expression of humility and selfless, sacrificial love for us to model our own lives after.

Just One Thing...

October 17, 2021 • Ben Kimmell • Philippians 1:12–26

In these verses, Paul declares the sovereignty of God along with the absolute priority of personally possessing Christ as well as public Kingdom proclamation despite whatever hardships and difficulties we face in this life. In this message, Pastor Ben challenges professing Christians at Calvary to embody the radical urgency of personally knowing Christ and publicly proclaiming Christ right here in Perry and to the ends of the earth.

Gospel Affections

In verses 1-11, Paul greets Philippian Christians with what is clearly a deep, personal affection and also urgent prayerful intercession. He wants his readers to be spiritually mature as well as develop deep structures of Christian character. In this message, Pastor Ben seeks to follow Paul’s lead and summon Calvary Christians to the kind of maturing love and completed Christian character that Paul describes.
