Ed Recommends... The Divine Conspiracy

September 15, 2022 • Ed Green

From Ed Green, our pastor of equipping & care... The Divine Conspiracy: Rediscovering Our Hidden Life in God, by Dallas Willard Okay, friends, if you know me, you know that Willard has had a tremendous influence on my thinking and spiritual life. Because of that impact, I quote him often in my sermons and teaching. This book, which was published almost 25 years ago, greatly shaped my understanding of how we follow Jesus in our world today. He unpacks what the Kingdom of God looks like in real life and illustrates this by working his way through Jesus' sermon on the mount. * Fair warning: Willard is not a quick read. His style is understandable, but dense. But it is well worth the effort.

Today is Stew's last official day as a part of our BCC staff. He and his wife Dawn will continue to call BCC their church home, and he will still serve as a vital part of our teaching team. Attached to God: A Practical Guide to Deeper Spiritual Experience by Krispin Mayfield This book was released earlier this year and wrestles with the question "Why does God feel so far away?" The reason - and the solution - is in your attachment style. We all experience moments when God's love and presence are tangible. But we also experience feeling far away from God. Why? The answer is found when you take a deep look at the other important relationships in your life and understand your attachment style. Through his years working in trauma recovery programs, extensive research into attachment science, and personal experiences with spiritual striving and abuse, licensed therapist Krispin Mayfield has learned to answer the question: Why do I feel so far from God?
