Out of Darkness: Jesus Descends

Greg St. Cyr • Isaiah 53:3–6

I am so excited about this Sunday as we begin our Easter series: Out of Darkness. Darkness in the Bible refers to living apart from God. It is a symbol for spiritual blindness and hopelessness. In contrast, light refers to the presence of God. It symbolizes His holiness and our fellowship with Him. Because of sin, we are born into spiritual darkness. Yet Luke 1:78-79 says, “Because of the tender mercy of our God, with which the Sunrise from on high will visit us, to shine upon those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.” Jesus is the Sunrise that shines into our darkness. Join us this Sunday at 9 and 11 a.m. – and invite a friend - as we explore why Jesus descended into the darkness for us.
