The Fourteenth Amendment: The Federal Government on Steroids

The fourteenth amendment of the United States Constitution, section one, reads like:
All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside. No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the Unites States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

History tells us this amendment was ratified in July of 1868-one of three amendments dealing with slavery and their newfound rights to be called citizens of the United States and benefiters of all that entailed.

But somehow, one hundred years later, this amendment has been hijacked and interpreted to absorb the power of the states and transfer it to the Federal government; and create rights from thin air for abortion, same sex marriage, or any other so called ‘right’ that could be shoehorned into this ‘guarantee of freedom’.
