Around the time APC was founded (some 300 years ago), an estimated 80% of the world’s Christian population lived in the Global North (Europe and North America) and the remaining 20% in the Global South (Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Pacific). Not many years from now, the demographic reality will have flipped, from 20% in the Global South to 80%. Even in academic circles, the story behind this dramatic shift in Christianity’s center of gravity is not particularly well-known. Drawing on resources developed by a new field of study known as World Christianity, the course offers an update on the complex dynamics involved globally and explores their implications locally.
