Dirt Matters

#4 - The Cares of a Crowded Heart

September 3, 2023 • Pastor Andrew Hamilton • Isaiah 30:15, Mark 4:1–20, Hebrews 13:5–6, Matthew 6:19–34, Philippians 4:6–13

This weekend, we’re concluding our series “Dirt Matters.” Those who work our land know that in order to produce a good harvest, we must cultivate our soil. It’s not enough to only focus on getting rid of the sin in our lives, we must also tend to our spiritual soil. So far, we’ve learned that there are 4 types of soil: the path, the rocky soil, the thorny soil, and the good soil. This weekend’s message is titled “The Cares of a Crowded Heart” and in our soil sample, we’ll be studying the seed that was sown “among the thorns.” According to Jesus, this is the one who hears the word; “but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.” Mark 4:18-19 [NIV] Our hearts can easily be distracted from what is important by what is pervasive! We also need to be cautious NOT to allow the stuff that we own, to own us, and choke our heart’s openness to God. When our hearts are receptive, we are open to the work that the Spirit of God is doing in us. Let’s talk about having an open heart this weekend! We can’t wait to worship with you this Sunday at 10am!

#3 - The Rocky Soil

August 27, 2023 • Pastor Andrew Hamilton • Hebrews 5:12–14, 1 Corinthians 3:1–9, Galatians 5:19–23, Deuteronomy 6:4–9, Mark 4:1–20

We’re continuing our series “Dirt Matters.” Those who work our land know that in order to produce a good harvest, we must cultivate our soil. It’s not enough to only focus on getting rid of the sin in our lives, we must also tend to our spiritual soil.   Last weekend, we learned that the soil on The Path is hard and that some people’s hearts are just hardened to the good news.   In this weekend’s soil sample, we’ll be examining the soil of The Rocky Ground. The Rocky Ground prevents the seed from developing deep roots. We’ll discover what the Bible says about how to grow deep roots of faith and some practical ways that we can achieve it!   At Adventure, we want to do everything we can to help you develop deep roots for healthy, vibrant, and effective spiritual growth. That’s why gathering each Sunday is so important for the life and vitality of Adventure.

#2 - The Path of MOST Resistance

August 20, 2023 • Pastor Andrew Hamilton • Mark 6:51–52, Mark 4:1–18, Isaiah 6:8–10, Jeremiah 5:20–21, 1 Corinthians 3:5–9

We’re continuing our series “Dirt Matters.” Those who work our land know that in order to produce a good harvest, we must cultivate our soil. It’s not enough to only focus on getting rid of the sin in our lives, we must also tend to our spiritual soil.   Last weekend, we learned that there are 4 types of soil: the path, the rocky soil, the thorny soil, and the good soil.   In this weekend’s soil sample: we’ll be examining the soil of The Path and why so many people hear the word of God, but they are completely resistant to the Gospel. How do you reach someone who’s heart has been completely hardened by their own life experiences? What can we do to reach those who are “dead in their sins?”   At Adventure, we want to do everything we can to help you lay a foundation for healthy, vibrant, and effective spiritual growth. That’s why gathering each Sunday is so important for the life and vitality of Adventure. Begin praying now for God to allow your heart to be receptive to his word. See you Sunday at 10am!

#1 - Preparing the Soil

August 13, 2023 • Pastor Andrew Hamilton • Psalm 1:1–3, Numbers 13:18–20, Mark 4:1–8, Jeremiah 4:3–4, Genesis 26:12

Over the last 8 weeks of Summer, we’ve addressed several of “The Weeds In My Garden.” We’ve spent a lot of time creating an awareness of the sin in our lives, and learning from the word of God how to uproot it.   This week, we’ll kick off a brand new series called: Dirt Matters. Those who work our land know that in order to produce a good harvest, we must cultivate our soil. It’s not enough to only focus on getting rid of the sin in our lives, we must also tend to our spiritual soil.   Paul teaches in Galatians 5:24, that we must crucify the flesh with its passions and desires, and live in step with God’s Spirit. For Christians, this is the ongoing pursuit of holiness.   At Adventure, we want to do everything we can to help you lay a foundation for healthy, vibrant, and effective spiritual growth.   Join us this weekend as we kick off this new 4-week series. Don’t forget that this weekend is our Stay ‘N Play! Invite a neighbor or co-worker to attend with you! We’ll have lunch provided and an afternoon of fun and quality family-time.   We’re looking forward to worshipping with you!
