The Pathway to Hell

January 18, 2026 • Matthew Henry

If you pull the idea of hell out of its context in the bible then you can do all sorts of reworking on the doctrine. But if you have a correct, biblically sound perspective on what hell represents and why it is present, then you will find a sobering, but beautiful doctrine.

Hell: Perspective Matters

January 4, 2026 • Matthew Henry • Romans 2:1–16

If you pull the idea of hell out of its context in the bible then you can do all sorts of reworking on the doctrine. But if you have a correct, biblically sound perspective on what hell represents and why it is present, then you will find a sobering, but beautiful doctrine.

An Introduction to Hell

December 28, 2025 • Matthew Henry

In recent days a new controversy popped up regarding the nature of hell. Does God consign an unbeliever to an eternity of suffering or does He do this for an ordained amount of time and then the person is simply destroyed in totality? Many opinions are happening online and yet not a lot of helpful teaching. This is the beginning of a short series to remedy this.

Paul Vs Paganism

December 14, 2025 • Matthew Henry • Acts 17:19–34

Paul finds himself in trouble yet again because of the gospel. This time he is taken to the formal court of Athens to be judged by the leading religious philosophers regarding this new teaching they think they hear. How will Paul respond? What will be his approach to those who are not schooled in the Scripture in any way?

The Decline of A Nation

November 30, 2025 • Matthew Henry • Psalm 12

{No sermon notes} There is much to be concerned about in America as we continue in our headlong race toward destruction. Not all share in this pessimistic perspective but the bible is clear regarding the way God works among the people and nations. This sermon is designed to stir the hearts of God’s people to consider what they believe. What do they believe about God? What do they believe about sin? What do they believe about the Word of God? And what is their hope? It is an introductory sermon to prepare Missio Dei Fellowship for a series that considers if the bible is true or only partly true.

The Provocation of Idolatry

November 23, 2025 • Matthew Henry • Acts 17:16–18

Paul had to flee Berea due to unbelieving Jews who came over from Thessalonica to denounce and attack him. The result is that he finds himself in Athens, Greece alone. Here we find this man of God faced with an overtly pagan world and we see how it affects him at the deepest levels of his soul.

One Message, Two Reactions

November 16, 2025 • Matthew Henry • Acts 17:1–15

Paul and Silas travel to Thessalonica and Berea with the goal of bringing the gospel to first the Jews and then the Gentiles. And the response is quite similar to that of Philippi, some Jews believe, while many Gentiles also come to faith. But things are not peaceful because when people genuinely embrace the gospel tensions rise due to new devotion and dedication. In this sermon we see how the one gospel message will always provoke two different reactions.

How to Lead a Person to Jesus Christ

November 9, 2025 • Matthew Henry • Acts 17:1–4

In the story of Paul in Thessalonica we have a beautiful example of how to lead a person to Jesus Christ. This is often a genuine struggle by people who know and love the gospel. In this sermon we consider several simple steps to keep in mind as we try to share the gospel.

God's Sovereignty Even in Persecution

November 2, 2025 • Matthew Henry • Acts 16:24–40

We see the third story of the events surrounding Paul and Silas’s missionary journey into Europe. Here we see the beating and jailing of these two men and then their release. But in and through all of this is the hand of God working out His perfect, yet mysterious will to save sinners.

Christ Triumphs over Demons

October 26, 2025 • Matthew Henry • Acts 16:16–23

We continue following Paul and his companions as they begin to bring the gospel into Europe. In this sermon we see them come into contact with demonic forces and how, through the power and authority of Jesus, they overcome.

Two Expressions of God’s Sovereignty

October 19, 2025 • Matthew Henry • Acts 16:11–15

Paul, having had a vision to come to Macedonia, travels over sea and land to arrive in this key city. There we find him encounter a group of women and we see the saving hand of God in the life of one named Lydia. But in all of this we also can see how God sovereignly moves in and through human history and human hearts to bring about His purposes throughout the ages.
