Luke 2:10

"But the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.'"

If I asked you “Where in your life have you experienced the greatest joy?”

My guess is you might say: “my wedding day” or “the day my child was born” or “the day I graduated” or maybe “the day I got my dream job”.

All justifiably joy-filled! But circumstantial.

Is there a greater source of joy? A joy that keeps on giving, even if the circumstances are less than joyous?

I do believe there is. And I want it.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! I love Christmas for so many reasons. I also need Christmas for as many reasons. Advent celebrates the time period between Jesus’ resurrection and His return. This seems like a indefinite amount of time to celebrate though, doesn’t it? However, Christmas comes every year. Traditionally, the 4 weeks in December leading up to the celebration of Jesus’ birth gives us an opportunity to wait expectantly. And I need something to look forward to. Just like a birthday can be something a child waits expectantly on, we too can wait expectantly on the Christ child’s birth that changed the course of history. It only requires of us one thing: hope.
