This is our Understanding the Scriptures segment, we are in the gospel of Matthew chapter 4, and we are going to pick up with verse 24:“And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them...”Now Dave, in programs past we’ve mentioned people like Pat Robertson who, one of the reasons he came up with his approach based on laws was that he wanted to see more consistent answers to prayer, more consistent healing.But we also have John Wimber, who believed that Jesus, the same yesterday, today and forever, and Jesus healed, there’s no reason why we can’t see all this healing that took place when He was here, why don’t we?

Should Christians Be Trick-or-Treating?

Tom: Dave, this has been one of the banes of my existence. I know as a young Christian when this festival, this holiday, came around (so-called), we used to shut off all our lights and just hide in the back room, not wanting to participate in it. On the other hand, you have a church that has children, and the parents of children, they don’t know what to do, and they’d like to get them off the streets or get them on church grounds and have some kind of function. What do you think? Dave: Well, if you want to have some special church function that evening so the kids are not out trick-or-treating, or so they are not tempted to do that, I see no problem with that. Tom: Sometimes it becomes a Halloween or a costume function at the church.

But first, sort of related to this is another item of real controversy. You know, in Mark 13:32, Jesus says, “But of that day and that hour knoweth no man; no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, [and that’s the controversial phrase] but the Father.” And, Dave, as you know, a couple weeks ago we talked about YWAM and how, I think it was Joy Dawson who was pretty instrumental in the development of that organization way back, probably 30-40 years ago, but she didn’t believe that Jesus, or that God, knew the future.
