Hell on Earth

It's also known as the Valley of Hell or the Valley of the Sons of Hinnom. The term hell is synonymous with terms like: sheol, tartaroo, gehenna or hades. Are all names for what Christianity knows today as an ever burning place of torment for the wicked. Is this fiery underworld real or allegory?
