The Church in Smyrna

What would you expect Jesus to say to a faithful church? The church in Smyrna is lauded for their faith and receives a surprising letter. The letter tells them they will be persecuted and how they should respond to trials and persecution. This passage is a reminder that trials and persecution are part of the Christian life, regardless of the faithfulness of the church or believer.

In Sardis, we’ll find a church that looks good on the outside but is spiritually dead. We’ll also see how Jesus says this church can become a healthy and thriving church.

Many people today would characterize the Church as intolerant. The idea is the Church needs to stay in line with the times or culture around us. Today we’ll explore what Jesus says about how the Church should handle sin within the Church. It’s a call to deal with sin and lead people to the gospel!
