Rahab is listed among the other heroes of the faith as she chose to hide the men who came to spy out the land for the Israelites. It's notable that she is referred to as Rahab the prostitute. While this was not her identity, it reinforces and reminds us that even though she had a checkered past, she could still exercise faith and not allow that past to define her. Her faith gives all of us who have regrets from our past because God's grace is offered to all who trust Him in faith.

Joshua led the Israelites in battle against the fortified city of Jericho. The Lord instructed him to march around the city for six days with the Ark of the Covenant between armed soldiers in front and in back of it. Seven priests also blew their ram's horns as they circled the city. On the seventh day they circled the city seven times, blowing the ram's horn but on the final lap they all shouted and the walls came crashing down! This approach defied all military strategy and must have looked foolish to the inhabitants of Jericho. There will be times when faith may look foolish to others but God will do amazing things when we walk in obedience to Him.

Moses chose to identify with God's people rather than enjoy the pleasures of Egypt's royal court. At great personal cost, he treasured doing the Lord's will over all the earthly treasures of Egypt. He did this because he saw the invisible God and led the deliverance of God's people from the angel of death and through the crossing of the Red Sea.

Moses' parents saw that their child was beautiful and chose to hide him in difiance of Pharaoh's edict that all male infants be killed. Apparently, those who defied these orders would suffer severe consequences, yet they chose to hide Moses for 3 months and eventually he became a prince in Egypt and the deliverer of the Hebrews from slavery. As parents, how we see our children is an act of faith and leads to a willingness to sacrifice for their good. While we must not make our children an idol, the best parents are those who see their children as the Lord sees them and they are willing to sacrifice for them. This type of faith also helps us to see people as God's children, worthy of sacrificing ourselves for their good.

Sarah is said to have received power to conceive even when she was well past the age of childbearing because she trusted in God's faithfulness to His promise. But her faith didn't begin with trust. She reasoned that since she was old, God would fulfil His promise through Hagar. Years later, she scoffed at the idea that she would be able to conceive. But something changed in her heart and she simply trusted in God's faithfulness to His promise. What are the promises from God that we can cling to today?

We often think of faith as the ability to overcome our fear to do what is right. However, Noah's faith was born out of his reverent fear of the Lord which led him to construct an ark that took a hundred years to build. Before there was ever a drop of rain, he trusted in God's word and faithfully built the massive ark.

Enoch is one of two people who were taken directly to heaven without dying. The brief commentary on his life was that he walked with God and pleased Him. This highlights the relational aspect of our faith. To walk with God in faith means that we see an invisible God and we hear words that aren't necessarily audible.

Abel offered a sacrifice to the Lord that was pleasing and acceptable to Him, but his brother Cain's offering was not. Abel gave the best portions of his flock to the Lord while Cain's offering did not reflect the worthiness of the Lord. Our giving is a reflection of what we think about our Lord and reveals the essence of our faith.
