Working Out your Salvation

Christianity and your Friends

March 12, 2017 • Dr. Danny Lovett

The word friend is defined so broadly today that it can be used to refer to all social acquaintances, even school and businesses associates. But when we come to the serious study of the term we find that in ordinary usage, as well as in biblical language, the word friend, conveys the idea of companion, partner, comrade. Our concept of friendship undergoes an immediate change when we think of it in terms of Christian relationships. This will be confirmed as we look at the pivotal statement made by our Lord on the subject of friends and friendships, in John 15:11-16. Don't miss this important truth on Christianity and Your Friends.

Christianity and your school

During this series of "Working Out Your Salvation", God has been bringing the Word to bear on our homes. This week we turn our attention to our precious children (and grandchildren). There is a sense in which none of us ever leaves school. The whole of life is a school in which we are trained and fitted for eternity. No one can read the Bible without observing this fact. The Scriptures make it abundantly clear that life, and afterlife, are largely determined by the way a child is raised or schooled, when their years are tender and the personality is so impressionable. The Word of God says, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it" Proverbs 22:6. This Sunday we will look at three very important truths that God wants us to glean from this great verse in Proverbs on how to train our children.

Christianity and your home

Last Sunday, the message was "Christianity and your Marriage" and many of us found ourselves making fresh commitments to the Lord and our spouses. This Sunday, the message is "Christianity and your Home." The whole idea of and design for the home originated with God. It's important for us to remember that this is God's plan. It is not surprising, to find that the Bible has much to say about the home. For the purpose we have in mind, we will be focusing our attention on Psalm 127 and the principles that should be in a genuinely Christian home. The essence of a Christian home is family life together with God. When God has His rightful place, the home is bound to be a happy home! Don't miss these great truths about building a home God's way!

Christianity and your marriage

For the next two Sundays, the titles of the messages are "Christianity and your Marriage" and "Christianity and your Home." God created the first two human beings to be the parents of the human race. They were to be companions, to live and work together as partners, helping each other every way they could. As the parents of the human race, they were a picture of exactly what God wants the people of the world to be: one family. This is one of the major points God is making in Genesis 2. Man and woman are to be companions to each other, true companions, living and working together as one family. The human race is to live together in the love, joy, and peace of a family. Satan is trying hard to destroy the home because it is God's first institution. Healthy homes are the foundation of healthy churches and healthy government. Satan knows that as goes the home, goes the Church, and as goes the Church, goes the country. We need to understand why God created the home and His intended purpose for the home in His eternal plan. You don't want to miss these next two messages. They can change your life and your home and have a ripple effect on our community. Let me especially urge the young couples with children to be attentive to what God has to say through his Word!

Christianity and your heart

January 29, 2017 • Dr. Danny Lovett

This Sunday, the title of the message is "The Heart Of Real Christianity". Why is this important? Because as individuals, many among us have no idea what the Christian life is supposed to be about. As a church, we have often left the heart of our faith behind in an effort to be politically correct and pleasing in the sight of the world. This Sunday we will examine Matthew 16:21-24 and its call for believers to return to the heart of what it means to be a Christian. We will look at the simple steps Jesus gives us to live out this Christian life. If we will hear His voice and heed His words, then we can experience real Christianity and impact our world for His glory!

Christianity and your Faith

January 15, 2017 • Dr. Danny Lovett

We continue a series of Bible messages entitled Working Out Our Salvation. Throughout this study we will see how Christianity is lived out practically in our everyday lives. This Sunday we will be looking at Christianity and Your Faith. As we examine the message of Christianity, we are exhorted to rest our faith both in the Living Word of God and in the Written Word of God. The faith we employ is the same, but its object is different. As we choose to believe in Jesus as the Savior, our human faith is transformed into saving faith; natural faith into effectual faith. How do we know about Jesus? Through the testimony of those who have gone before us and most securely, from the Word of God. Saving faith "comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God," Romans 10:17. This Sunday we will look at Christianity and Your Faith. Each of us has to exercise faith continually, both for salvation and sanctification. The object of our faith always determines its quality and validity. The effectiveness of faith is always determined by the object in whom, or in which, that faith rests. If the object is worthy, then the faith is strong. On the other hand, if the object is unworthy, then the faith is weak. We can have strong faith when we place our faith in Jesus and the Word of God!

What is your Start

January 8, 2017 • Dr. Danny Lovett

Last Sunday, on the first day of 2017, we began a new series of Bible messages entitled Working Out Our Salvation. Throughout this study we will see how Christianity is lived out practically in our everyday lives. We began with a look at our purpose. This Sunday we will examine the full significance of what God says about Christianity and our lives. "For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, then vanishes away," James 4:14. These words are addressed to men and women who try to live without God. In James 4:13-17, the whole context is an exposure of the materialism and worldly mindset of every age. James reminds us that life is short. It's also significant. The danger we face is wasting our lives by living selfishly and sinfully. When God's purpose for our life is acknowledged and sought after, we are made able to accomplish His "good, and acceptable, and perfect will" (Romans 12:2). Start this New Year off right by being in church with your CCW family as we learn how to live out our salvation!

A New Start

January 1, 2017 • Dr. Danny Lovett

What is the purpose of the Christian Life? Why am I here? What is the meaning of my life? What is my purpose? Why was I born? These are questions asked by many, both young and old. For the Christian, there are answers to these questions. Every Christian has a definite purpose and meaning for life revealed to us in the Bible. So what is our life's purpose? This Sunday, on the first day of 2017, we will begin a new series of Bible messages entitled Working Out Our Salvation. We will see how Christianity is lived out practically in our everyday lives. We begin with a look at our purpose. What is the Purpose of the Christian life? Often people spend some time reflecting on the year that has past and the potential of the year ahead. As you think about this, spend some time seeking God's plan for you in 2017.
