Christianity and your Faith

January 15, 2017 • Dr. Danny Lovett

We continue a series of Bible messages entitled Working Out Our Salvation. Throughout this study we will see how Christianity is lived out practically in our everyday lives. This Sunday we will be looking at Christianity and Your Faith.

As we examine the message of Christianity, we are exhorted to rest our faith both in the Living Word of God and in the Written Word of God. The faith we employ is the same, but its object is different. As we choose to believe in Jesus as the Savior, our human faith is transformed into saving faith; natural faith into effectual faith. How do we know about Jesus? Through the testimony of those who have gone before us and most securely, from the Word of God. Saving faith "comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God," Romans 10:17. This Sunday we will look at Christianity and Your Faith. Each of us has to exercise faith continually, both for salvation and sanctification. The object of our faith always determines its quality and validity. The effectiveness of faith is always determined by the object in whom, or in which, that faith rests. If the object is worthy, then the faith is strong. On the other hand, if the object is unworthy, then the faith is weak. We can have strong faith when we place our faith in Jesus and the Word of God!

Christianity and your Friends

The word friend is defined so broadly today that it can be used to refer to all social acquaintances, even school and businesses associates. But when we come to the serious study of the term we find that in ordinary usage, as well as in biblical language, the word friend, conveys the idea of companion, partner, comrade. Our concept of friendship undergoes an immediate change when we think of it in terms of Christian relationships. This will be confirmed as we look at the pivotal statement made by our Lord on the subject of friends and friendships, in John 15:11-16. Don't miss this important truth on Christianity and Your Friends.

Christianity and your school

During this series of "Working Out Your Salvation", God has been bringing the Word to bear on our homes. This week we turn our attention to our precious children (and grandchildren). There is a sense in which none of us ever leaves school. The whole of life is a school in which we are trained and fitted for eternity. No one can read the Bible without observing this fact. The Scriptures make it abundantly clear that life, and afterlife, are largely determined by the way a child is raised or schooled, when their years are tender and the personality is so impressionable. The Word of God says, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it" Proverbs 22:6. This Sunday we will look at three very important truths that God wants us to glean from this great verse in Proverbs on how to train our children.

Christianity and your home

Last Sunday, the message was "Christianity and your Marriage" and many of us found ourselves making fresh commitments to the Lord and our spouses. This Sunday, the message is "Christianity and your Home." The whole idea of and design for the home originated with God. It's important for us to remember that this is God's plan. It is not surprising, to find that the Bible has much to say about the home. For the purpose we have in mind, we will be focusing our attention on Psalm 127 and the principles that should be in a genuinely Christian home. The essence of a Christian home is family life together with God. When God has His rightful place, the home is bound to be a happy home! Don't miss these great truths about building a home God's way!
