The Great Convictions of a Great Christian - Part 1

Colossians 1:1-8

April 19, 2015 • Dr. Danny Lovett

When we study Paul’s epistles, we see that each letter has a dominant theme. In Romans, the theme is justification by faith. In Ephesians, it is the mystery of Christ and his church. In Philippians, he focuses on the joy which Christ brings. In Colossians, it is the absolute supremacy and sufficiency of Jesus Christ as the Head of all creation and the church. There is no book in the New Testament which presents such a comprehensive picture of the fullness of Christ. There is no writing better-equipped to draw us upward than the book of Colossians. This Sunday, the title of the message is “The Great Convictions of a Great Christian”.

Talk is Cheap

Never underestimate the power of your speech. A judge says a few words, and a man's life is saved or condemned. A doctor speaks a few words, and a patient either rejoices ecstatically or gives up in despair. Whether the communication is oral or written, there is great power in words. The power of speech is a gift of God, and it must be used the way God meant it to be used. The tongue has the power to direct, the power to destroy, the power to delight. The tongue is but a little member in our bodies, but it can accomplish great things for good or for bad. This Sunday we will finish our study in Colossians by looking at four important ministries of speech. Don't miss this life changing truth.
