Part of the Family

In First John 3:10, the Apostle reminds us that there are two families to which everyone belongs: the family of God or the family of Satan. Through sin, we all begin in one family but upon coming to faith, the new Christian is rescued and adopted into the other. Entrance into this new family results in several blessings, including a new Father, a new identity, a new life, and a new inheritance. As we look to Romans 8:14-17, the Apostle Paul highlights the role of the Spirit in this process of spiritual adoption and highlights four aspects of the believer's ongoing sonship.

There is a simple three-letter word that is the crux of all mankind's problems. At the root of all debauchery, hatred, murder, sensuality, greed, pride, and hard-heartedness is man's sin. For the unbeliever, sin separates from a holy God. For the unbeliever, sin shackles to the bondage of depravity. For the unbeliever, sin offers no hope, no salvation. However, for those of us who have been redeemed by Jesus, we are given His Spirit, ever-working in our hearts and minds to mold us into the image of Christ. This Sunday, we'll see how the Holy Spirit delivers believers from the bondage of sin.
