Fundamentals

May 14 - June 4, 2023

Direction - North Oak

June 4, 2023 • Diannah White • Matthew 4:12–17

Over the years, the church has shifted and changed, but the task has remained the same. Early in the church's history, the rituals were given more emphasis, then eventually, the message and the music were emphasized more. But all those things are meant to point us toward God, to help us see God in our everyday lives, in the simple and mundane — to help us participate in and experience the Kingdom.

Practice - North Oak

May 28, 2023 • Gerry Pickett • Acts 2:42–47

We use the term practice to talk about something you do to prepare for the real thing. And in the context of the church, practices are things that we do in community to prepare for every other part of our lives. Part of what it means to be the church is doing these practices as a way to help us participate in God's story, the story of love, grace, and goodness.

Care - North Oak

May 21, 2023 • Matt Fulmer • 1 Corinthians 12:20–27

If you've ever broken a bone, you know how difficult it can be and how other parts of your body have to compensate. Community is crucial because it can support us in our times of need. Church is meant to be the kind of place where when one person is hurting, people surround them with care and support.

Acceptance - North Oak

May 14, 2023 • Matt Fulmer • Luke 5:27–32

Many times the church is seen as the least accepting place. But that is not what God intended. God intended for the church to be the place where those on the outskirts, those who were denied everywhere else, felt safe and accepted.

Fundamentals

We all love the big moments in sports, the clutch plays, and big celebrations, but these mountaintops are impossible to achieve without a good foundation. The endless hours of drills and training, the basics that can easily be overlooked, yet those fundamentals are the most important piece. How can we, as followers of Jesus, reclaim those fundamental pieces and parts of the church that are pure and good and invite others to participate in them? I think it’s time we revisit the fundamentals.
