If you've ever broken a bone, you know how difficult it can be and how other parts of your body have to compensate. Community is crucial because it can support us in our times of need. Church is meant to be the kind of place where when one person is hurting, people surround them with care and support.

Over the years, the church has shifted and changed, but the task has remained the same. Early in the church's history, the rituals were given more emphasis, then eventually, the message and the music were emphasized more. But all those things are meant to point us toward God, to help us see God in our everyday lives, in the simple and mundane — to help us participate in and experience the Kingdom.

We use the term practice to talk about something you do to prepare for the real thing. And in the context of the church, practices are things that we do in community to prepare for every other part of our lives. Part of what it means to be the church is doing these practices as a way to help us participate in God's story, the story of love, grace, and goodness.
