Spoiler Alert! (2 Peter 3:10-18)

June 11, 2017 • Bill Young

Have you ever had a book or movie “spoiled" because someone shared the ending with you? This can be very frustrating. Or, it can be a relief, depending on your personality. As we conclude our study of 1 & 2 Peter, Peter reveals details of how our world will end. Rather than being a “spoiler" this is, in fact, a really good thing to know! Understanding that nothing in the universe is permanent (and that the earth is not our real home) should help keep us from ungodly living. The fact that Jesus is coming back (and heaven awaits the righteous) should bring us joy. It should also cause us to live holy lives. We’ll look at four characteristics of the Christian who really believes that the end of the world is near.

June 4, 2017 • Josh Whitney

As we near the end of the book of 2 Peter, the Apostle Peter addresses one of the false teachings of his time. Namely, the false teachers deny that God will return for His final judgment. Peter takes his audience back to the creation and flood in order to demonstrate that God has intervened in history and He will again. We will look at some evidence for the flood and the truth this teaches us as Christians.

Danger Ahead (2 Peter 2:13-22)

The New Testament often speaks of a Christian’s “walk” being symbolic of their decisions and the lifestyle they choose as Believers. As we continue studying the book of 2 Peter, he warns us against the dangers of false teachers who are intent on derailing our spiritual walk. In this message, we will glean from Peter’s concern for the Church and observe four warning signs that will help us avoid false teachers and stay on the path of righteousness.

How To Recognize Truth

May 14, 2017 • Bill Young

English author Samuel Johnson wrote, "People need to be reminded more often that they need to be instructed." The Apostle Peter seems to agree with that quote when he writes that he wants to remind, refresh, and help the church remember how to determine what is true. Truth is a fickle word. Definitions get assigned to it that are contradictory, purely individual, and without any validation. Peter wants his readers to know what is true. He reminds them that truth is both personally familiar and scripturally verifiable. We will discover four keys to knowing what we believe is actually true.

Divine Power

May 7, 2017 • Josh Whitney

In the Book of Second Peter, the Apostle Peter is going to teach about the dangers of false teachers. But, first, he presents some of the incredible spiritual riches we have as Christians (found in verses one through four). Then he talks about our response to these riches (found in verses five through eleven). Specifically, God has given us His divine power for life and godliness. This is a truth that all Christians need to meditate on.

Suffering Well

April 23, 2017 • Steele Croswhite

Suffering is a part of our lives every single day. How is it that Peter calls the Christian to “rejoice" in suffering? How do we suffer well? Is suffering because God is mad at us? Shouldn’t a Christian be happy? The verses in this teaching address some of these questions, while also helping us to look upon Jesus. Are you suffering now? This message is right for you.

Husbands And Wives: God's Way

March 12, 2017 • Bryan D. Edwards

What does the Bible say it looks like to be a woman? how about a wife? In a world filled with blurred lines (in the areas of roles and expectations), God’s Word remains clear. When corruptible beauty is being promoted by fashion magazines and reality stars, you can find tremendous wisdom in the Bible. The Word is clear about a woman’s true beauty and value. This teaching will share timeless truths on that true beauty (as well as the influence a woman can have on her marriage, family, and this world). We will also look at the remarkably high standard husbands have been called to in marriage. In the good times and the bad, there is tremendous hope found in God’s Word.

In these verses, there are practical, timeless truths, related to submitting to the authorities in our lives. When this seems difficult or impossible, Peter points us to the ultimate example of submission, Jesus Christ.

Finding Hope

February 11, 2017 • Bill Young

Peter is one of the most beloved characters in the Bible. Many of us can relate to his reckless, passionate, rash, wild, and fearless qualities. In his first letter to the churches, we will discover that he has a unique ability to encourage Believers in faith, obedience and patience. His experiences (and close relationship with Jesus), allow him to direct us in God’s way, while offering us comfort and hope in both suffering and joy.
