Family Trees

Families are messy, and God blesses that mess

Family Trees • Week 3

December 17, 2023 • Pastor Jason Miller • Ephesians 2:1–10

KEY SCRIPTURE https://www.bible.com/bible/111/eph.2.1-10 1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. PRAYER God, I praise you because you are faithful to me in ways I don’t even understand. Holy Spirit, thank you for your faithfulness, even when I lack faith. This morning, help me to see how good you’ve been to me, even when I can’t see it or understand it. Where I have sinned against you, others or myself, I am sorry Lord. I know if I put my faith, hope and trust in Jesus, I am forgiven not because of anything I’ve done but because of you who are and what Jesus has done for me. Holy Spirit, use your Word and your Power to help me become more like Jesus! Open my ears to hear, my eyes to see and help me focus on Jesus! In the powerful name of Jesus I pray, Amen!

December 10, 2023 • Pastor Jason Miller • Hebrews 4:14–15, 1 Corinthians 1:27–29

**KEY SCRIPTURE** Hebrews 4:14-15 NLT 14 So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. 15 This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.  1 Corinthians 1:27-29 NLT 27 Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. 28 God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. 29 As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God. **PRAYER** Father, I praise you that Your ways are not my ways. I thank you that you choose foolish things. Holy Spirit, help me to remember that I am powerless to save myself. That I have been rescued and redeemed because of who you are and what Jesus has done for me. Help me to remember this truth, Holy Spirit. Thank you Jesus for knowing all of my weaknesses, all of my sins, all of my failures and uncertainties, and yet, you don’t just love me, you want to know me and shape me to Become more like you. Holy Spirit, help me see what Your Word has for me. In the Amazing Name of Jesus!

KEY SCRIPTURE https://www.bible.com/bible/111/mrk.6.1-6 1 Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his disciples. When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed. 2 “Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? Isn’t this the carpenter? 3 Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. 4 Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.” 5 He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. 6 He was amazed at their lack of faith. PRAYER Father, you are good and your love endures. Thank you for loving me, saving me and accepting me because of Jesus! Holy Spirit, this morning, help me to see just how good you are. I confess that I often take your grace and goodness for granted. Help me to trust in your Word, your promises and your presence. I want the promises of your Word to take root in my heart, mind and life. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
