As the gospel spread among the Gentiles, there was disagreement as to whether or not they were required to follow all of the Law of Moses. A conference was held in Jerusalem and it was determined that God’s grace was available to all and that no unnecessary restrictions should be placed on anyone. We too are always encouraged to pursue unity, even when we may disagree on minor points.

After dramatically healing a crippled man in Lystra, Jews came down from Antioch and Iconium and incited the crowds to turn against Paul. They stoned him and, thinking he was dead, dragged him out of the city. Though he had been severely hurt, Paul was not discouraged and boldly returned to the very cities that had opposed him to encourage the faithful. When opposition broke out against them, Paul quotes Isaiah 49:6 and turns his attention towards the Gentiles. This would become his pattern, as he would first proclaim the gospel to the Jews and then to the Gentiles. Though the persecution would intensify, they would continue to preach the gospel.
