Did God Really Say?

The Strategic Importance of Periods and Question Marks

June 24, 2018 • Mike Bradley

We are daughters and sons of God, created and saved on purpose for a purpose.

Ephesians 2:8-10 – “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."

We are saved and made by God to be his masterpiece, created to do good works, and to be poeple of influence who are impacting others with God’s love and God’s power.

But so often we feel like anything but a masterpiece.

And we wonder just what the heck we are doing with our lives.

And that feeling and the questions that go with it are not an accident.

They are the manifestation of a very real strategic initiative launched against us by somebody who hates us and hates the one who created and saved us.

Words Create Worlds

Our words create worlds. The words we speak shape and create world we live in. Words have always created worlds. It’s true. How was our world made? Words. Ten times in the creation account of Genesis 1 we read this: “And God said…” Their impact is captured in Genesis 2:1 “Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.” Gen. 1:28 reports that we are made in God’s image, so why should it surprise us that our words have creative power as well? God would urge us to listen to ourselves, to pay attention to the words we speak and the worlds they create.

What's the Point?

What’s the point of this – the Sunday morning church gathering that is, for many of us, a regular part of our lives? What if the point isn’t what we think it is, or is more than we imagined it is? God isn’t afraid of honest inquiry or the fierce conversation, and the answers to this question may surprise and delight us!
