Does the Book of Mormon claim Hebrew origins for the Native American Indians?

QUESTION FOR MORMONS: Does the Book of Mormon claim Hebrew origins for the Native American Indians? The Book of Mormon claims to contain the stories of a group of people, called the Lamanites which it states migrated from Israel to America in 600 B.C. Yet, DNA testing on the Native American Indians throughout America reveal an Asian origin for the Indians with no connection to Near Eastern Jewish genetics. To compensate for this discrepancy, the Gospel Topics Essay on LDS.org entitled, the “Book of Mormon and DNA Studies,” asserts: “The Book of Mormon itself, however, does not claim that the peoples it describes were either the predominant or the exclusive inhabitants of the lands they occupied.” Yet footnote 10 of the essay admits that from 1981 to 2006, “The introduction, which is not part of the text of the Book of Mormon, previously stated that the Lamanites were the 'principal ancestors of the American Indians.' ” So, while the Essay admits that the Introduction to the Book of Mormon stated the Jewish Lamanites were the “principal ancestors of the American Indians,” the LDS Church blatantly lies about the claims of the Book of Mormon when is states that these claims were only made in the Introduction text of the Book of Mormon. Note that 2 Nephi 1:8 in the text of the Book of Mormon continues to promote the idea that the Israelite Lamanites were the ONLY people in America when it states: “And behold, it is wisdom that this land should be kept as yet from the knowledge of other nations; for behold, many nations would overrun the land, that there would be no place for an inheritance.” As such, the LDS Church's excuse for the DNA research disproving Hebrew origin assertions is shown to be a lie, twisting the facts to allow for other non-Jewish migrations to America in order to justify the lack of DNA evidence to support Book of Mormon claims.
