Items & Info for Hike:

1. Comfortable backpack large enough to fit everything you need for the entire trip. An abdomen strap and sternum strap is a nice addition but not necessary.

2. at least 3 changes of clothes. Dry fit type material is lightest, least space, and quickest to dry. Shorts are fine or light pants. Good socks and maybe an extra pair of socks. Maybe a hat. Possibly a light, water resistant jacket or long sleeve shirt for early morning. Place clothes in a ziplock bag in case of rain.

3. one pair of good sneakers or trail sneakers or light hiking boots. Band-aids or moleskin in case of a blister.

4. optional-sunglasses, sunscreen, small flashlight, collapsible trek walking stick, pair of flip flops or slides for walking around the inn-restroom, shower, meals, hanging out

5. 2 large refillable water bottles. I recommend lightweight bottles like one liter Zephyrhills water bottles and not heavy insulated bottles.

6. plenty of calorie dense snacks that are easy to eat and digest-nuts, peanut butter, trail mix, grain/nut bars, etc.

7. money for: shirts/mementos at park/Hike Inn(optional) 2-4 meals while on the road traveling. Sack lunch included for long hike day

8. toilet paper/wet wipes for emergencies while on the trail (place in ziplock bag)

9. prescription and nonprescription medicine.

10. physical Bible, pen or pencil

11. basic toiletries-toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant (essential!) Supplied by Hike Innsoap, shampoo, towels, wash cloths, bedding

12. inflatable pillow (optional) basic pillows and clean sheets will be on the bunk beds.

13. minimal electronics-preferably none! Limited electrical outlets to charge. Use phone for pics and you can tag Wiregrass Church after the trip on social media. Please keep your phones off as much as possible. We need to detox from our phones, internet, and social media!

14. As you prepare for the hike, begin getting more exercise and eat healthier. If you are struggling with a chemical addiction, do NOT use this trip as a time to detox. You will ruin the trip for everyone else. Pastor Steve and/or Pastor Carl will help you detox before the trip if you need help. We will help you confidentially.

15. If you have any significant medical, health, allergy, or similar issues, we ask that you document that on the release waiver and emergency contact form. Someone on the hike with medical experience will be made aware so we can respond appropriately if needed. We will have an emergency number for your family to call in case they need to get in touch with you.

16. This trip will be coed so unmarried and singles will lodge with other singles of the same gender. Married couples will room together.

17. We will depart from Wiregrass Church on Thursday, 9/12/2024, by 4 AM. We should arrive at Amicalola Falls between 12-1 PM to begin the hike. The first afternoon will be the hike to Len Foote Hike Inn about 4.5-5 miles. The second day will be a hike from the Len Foote Hike Inn to the beginning of the Appalachian Trail on Springer Mountain. We will hike there in the morning after breakfast and carry a bag lunch from the Inn to eat when we reach the AT. We will hike back to the Hike Inn after we eat lunch at the AT. The hike on the second day will be twice as long (about 10 miles) and a little more strenuous in some spots. If you feel like the second day of hiking to the AT will be too much for you, you can rest and enjoy the beautiful area around the Inn while others go on the hike. The third morning we will hike back down the mountain (4.5-5 miles) to the vehicles and head back to Florida in the afternoon. Other than 911 emergencies, the only way to get to the Len Foote Hike Inn and return to the vehicles is by hiking.
