EASTER

April 4, 2021 • Paul Barnard

A weeks worth of Change in an hour *Joh 12:9 When the large crowd of the Jews learned that Jesus was there, they came, not only on account of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.* *Joh 12:10 So the chief priests made plans to put Lazarus to death as well,* *Joh 12:11 because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus.* *Joh 12:12 The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. Joh 12:13 So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!”* Psalm 118 *Joh 12:14 And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written,* *Joh 12:15 “Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey's colt!”* *Joh 12:16 His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him.* *Joh 12:17 The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness. Joh 12:18 The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign. Joh 12:19 So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, the world has gone after him.”* *Joh 12:20 Now among those who went up to worship at the feast were some Greeks.* *Joh 12:21 So these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” Joh 12:22 Philip went and told Andrew; Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus. Joh 12:23 And Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Joh 12:24 Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Joh 12:25 Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Joh 12:26 If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.* *Mar 15:6 Now at the feast he used to release for them one prisoner for whom they asked.* *Mar 15:7 And among the rebels in prison, who had committed murder in the insurrection, there was a man called Barabbas. Mar 15:8 And the crowd came up and began to ask Pilate to do as he usually did for them. Mar 15:9 And he answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?”* *Mar 15:10 For he perceived that it was out of envy that the chief priests had delivered him up.* *Mar 15:11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release for them Barabbas instead.* *Mar 15:12 And Pilate again said to them, “Then what shall I do with the man you call the King of the Jews?” Mar 15:13 And they cried out again, “Crucify him.” Mar 15:14 And Pilate said to them, “Why? What evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify him.” Mar 15:15 So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.* The worse the world around you gets, the more you crave relief A. The thin line between what we want and what we need B. Emotional change lasts as long as the emotion *Steps to Spiritual Transformation* *Awareness* *Why are you here? Relief, religion, or repentance* *Belief* *Commitment* *So which is it Barrabus or Jesus?* The world or the Savior

Teen Challenge Life group questions: 1. Why is it important that OFC exposes ministries like this? 2. What does this ministry say about the mission and vision of OFC? 3. How can we get more involved in the day to day ministry at OFC? 4. What are some thigns that cause us to get inward focus and not outward? 5. What are some of the challenges people in addiction face? How can we help?
