*What is the goal in life?* Php 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. *Know the difference between certain and uncertain.* 2Ki 6:16 He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 2Ki 6:17 Then Elisha prayed and said, “O LORD, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. Php 4:5 Let your *reasonableness* be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; *The only thing that extinguishes uncertainty is certainty.* - A snake is scary if I can see him - Missions safer than you think - The familiar is safer to us no matter how dangerous it is. Why, Certainty. - Pressure from a test or a decision - The question we have to ask, is it true? - Most people dealing with anxiety see failure as the end *Finding Certainty* 1. *Change your heart and mind* Php 4:6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by* prayer and supplication with thanksgiving* let your requests be made known to God. Php 4:7 And the *peace* of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your *hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.* - Prayer acknowledges God for who He is - Supplication acknowledges God for what He can do - Thankfulness is a denial of self in worry - Peace is the opposite of anxiety 1. *Change your focus* Php 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise,* think about these things.* *QUESTIONS * 1 How does anxiety take hold of your life? Is it mostly based on certainty or uncertainty? 2 Why do you think anxiety is such a problem in today’s culture? 3 What is the answer to this problem? 4 How does Phillipians 4:8 handle anxiety?
