Follow VI - Emotion

Emotions are guiding by outside influencers Deu 1:19 “Then we set out from Horeb and went through all that great and terrifying wilderness that you saw, on the way to the hill country of the Amorites, as the LORD our God commanded us. And we came to Kadesh-barnea. Deu 1:20 And I said to you, ‘You have come to the hill country of the Amorites, which the LORD our God is giving us. Deu 1:21 See, the LORD your God has set the land before you. Go up, take possession, as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has told you. Do not fear or be dismayed.’ Deu 1:22 Then all of you came near me and said, ‘Let us send men before us, that they may explore the land for us and bring us word again of the way by which we must go up and the cities into which we shall come.’ Deu 1:23 The thing seemed good to me, and I took twelve men from you, one man from each tribe. Deu 1:24 And they turned and went up into the hill country, and came to the Valley of Eshcol and spied it out. Deu 1:25 And they took in their hands some of the fruit of the land and brought it down to us, and brought us word again and said, ‘It is a good land that the LORD our God is giving us.’ Deu 1:26 “Yet you would not go up, but rebelled against the command of the LORD your God. Deu 1:27 And you murmured in your tents and said, ‘Because the LORD hated us he has brought us out of the land of Egypt, to give us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us. Deu 1:28 Where are we going up? Our brothers have made our hearts melt, saying, “The people are greater and taller than we. The cities are great and fortified up to heaven. And besides, we have seen the sons of the Anakim there.”’ Deu 1:29 Then I said to you, ‘Do not be in dread or afraid of them. Deu 1:30 The LORD your God who goes before you will himself fight for you, just as he did for you in Egypt before your eyes, Deu 1:31 and in the wilderness, where you have seen how the LORD your God carried you, as a man carries his son, all the way that you went until you came to this place.’ Deu 1:32 Yet in spite of this word you did not believe the LORD your God, Deu 1:33 who went before you in the way to seek you out a place to pitch your tents, in fire by night and in the cloud by day, to show you by what way you should go. *Foundations for negative emotions:* * Fear Deu 1:28 Where are we going up? Our brothers have made our hearts melt, saying, “The people are greater and taller than we. The cities are great and fortified up to heaven. And besides, we have seen the sons of the Anakim there.”’ Deu 1:29 Then I said to you, ‘Do not be in dread or afraid of them. * Lies Deu 1:31 and in the wilderness, where you have seen how the LORD your God carried you, as a man carries his son, all the way that you went until you came to this place.’ Deu 1:32 Yet in spite of this word you did not believe the LORD your God, *Fuel for negative emotions:* * Reactions Deu 1:26 “Yet you would not go up, but rebelled against the command of the LORD your God. Deu 1:27 And you murmured in your tents and said, ‘Because the LORD hated us he has brought us out of the land of Egypt, to give us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us. * Resets Deu 1:27 And you murmured in your tents and said, ‘Because the LORD hated us he has brought us out of the land of Egypt, to give us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us. *Emotional tolls-* Poor decisions Becoming a slave *Breaking free-* Break from emotional triggers Draw near to God and find identity in Him. Sabbatical Questions: What negative emotions do you struggle with and why? In what ways do reactions to these emotions hinder God’s plan for you? Can you identify “resets” in your life? Give an example. How can drawing closer to God, help to control reaction to emotion? What specific steps can you make this week to identify emotional slavery in your life?

War XI - "Neighbor"

August 9, 2020 • Paul Barnard

Neighbor *Luk 10:25 And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” Luk 10:26 He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?”* *Luk 10:27 And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”* *Luk 10:28 And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.”* *Luk 10:29 But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”* *Luk 10:30 Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead.* *Luk 10:31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side.* *Luk 10:32 So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.* *Luk 10:33 But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion.* *Luk 10:34 He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him.* *Luk 10:35 And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’* *Luk 10:36 Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?”* *Luk 10:37 He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”* First dude- Priest- Busy busy busy with church work Second dude- Levite- Judged him- “prolly deserved it, wrong side of town” Third dude- Samaritan- Crossed racial and cultural lines, took time away from business and cared for his neighbor. We have been given a mandate to be the hands and feet of Jesus This mandate does not come with exceptions *Mat 16:19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”* We have been given the keys to the kingdom not the church This is why people have become so disillusioned with the church No action to words. *1Jn 3:18 Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.* *1Jn 3:19 By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him;* *We have to change our posture before people will receive what we proclaim.*
