Old Testament Origins

Peter's first Christ sermon culminated with a call to action: repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit. This wasn't the first time that the Bible connected the ideas of water, the Holy Spirit, and salvation. In fact, Peter was drawing on several key stories from the Old Testament that show how God uses water to symbolize a fresh start for the people of God.
