One Minute After You Die

You Were Designed For a Better World

May 12, 2019 • Pastor Allen Bonnell

1. Heaven will be incomparably awe inspiring. 2. Heaven will be a great adventure. “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and keep it.” Genesis 2:15 “When the Lamb opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.” Revelation 8:1 “When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage. Instead, they will be like the angels in heaven.” Mark 12:25 “The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.” Revelation 21:23 3. Heaven doesn’t have a seating capacity. “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” John 14:1-4 “Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:5-6

HELL

1. People go to hell. “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” Matthew 25:41 2. There is agony in hell. “There is a real fire in hell, just like you have a real body, and that fire is like burning sulfur that burns the body in pain but does not burn out or burn up.” - Charles Spurgeon 3. Hell is eternal. 4. In hell you are alone. “They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever.” Jude 1:3 While the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Matthew 8:12 5. Hell is justified. “Some want to live within the sound of chapel bells, I want to run a rescue shop, within a yard of hell.” CT Studd, “In flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might” 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9   “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.” 2 Peter 3: 9 -10

One Minute After You Die

I. The next life is better than this life. II. The next life begins immediately, but isn’t final. "We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord." 2 Corinthians 5:8 Jesus answered him, "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise." Luke 23:43 Two Judgments: 1. The Great White Throne Judgment. 2. The judgment seat of Jesus.

The Hope of Easter

1. The certainty of the cross was inevitable. “And Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away, for it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’  But after I am raised up, I will go before you to Galilee.” Mark 14:27-28 2. The cruelty of the cross is horrific. “Again and again they struck him on the head with a staff and spit on him. Falling on their knees, they paid homage to him.” Mark 15:19 3. The centrality of the cross "The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." 1 Corinthians 1:18 "But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by his wounds we are healed" Isaiah 53:5
