Will Everyone Be Saved?

September 10, 2017 • Pastor Allen Bonnell

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.” Romans 1:16 1. Salvation requires an outward expression. 2. Salvation requires submission to Jesus’ rule in our life. 3. Salvation requires belief in certain facts. 4. Salvation results in being right before God. “But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:21-24

God's Mercy

1. God’s sovereign choice. We are talking about a people, not a person. “The LORD said to her, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated, one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.” Genesis 25:23 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.” Luke 14:26 2. God’s merciful character, v. 14-22 “He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.” Titus 3:5 "Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.” Proverbs 28:13 “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9 “As has just been said: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.” Hebrews 3:15 3. God’s concern for all people. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16 “He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” Romans 8:32 “And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.” 1 John 4:14 “He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.” 1 John 2:1-2 “Who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.” 1 Timothy 2:4 “For God has bound everyone over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all.” Romans 11:32

You Have A Gift

1. We all have spiritual gifts. “Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.” 1 Corinthians 12:7 2. You are given gifts to use them. You were created to contribute. 3. You receive these gifts for the benefit of others. “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9

Essential

1. Our humility paves the way to service. “He will not be thinking about humility: he will not be thinking about himself at all.” CS Lewis “True humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less.” Rick Warren “For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” Matthew 23:12 2. Our role is unique in service. “Each one should use whatever gift he’s received to serve others.” 1 Peter 4:10 “You are the only person on earth who can use your ability.” Zig Zigler 3. We belong to one another

Priorities

1. Our motivation for serving is mercy. “It does not depend on man’s desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.” Romans 9:16 “Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven--as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little." Luke 7:47 2. Spend our lives serving others. Ephesians 6:7, “Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people.” Charles Spurgeon said, "Every Christian is either a missionary or an imposter." 3. You need to change, to create more time.

More Than Conquerors

A Spiritual Contributor > A Spiritual Consumer “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10, 1. There is a purpose in our pain. 2. Your past doesn’t prohibit you from serving, it prepares you to serve. God cares less about where we have been, and more about where we are going.
