The Road to Freedom 1. We are all enslaved to sin. “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned.” Romans 5:12 I consider myself a good person, isn’t that enough? 2. The penalty for sin is death. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 Is sin really that big of a deal? 3. The penalty for sin was paid for by Jesus. “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 Knowing what I have done, would God really help me? 4. If we repent of our sins, and confess our faith in Christ, we will be saved from our sin. “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 How can I have my sins forgiven? "For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." Romans 10:13 "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." Romans 5:1 "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." Romans 8:1 "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Growing Together Romans 15:14-22 Authentic community < Independent living 1. The community spurs growth. Hebrews 10:24-25 “ And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” 2. The Holy Spirit ignites growth. Acts 1:4-5 “ On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” 3. Risk is often an ingredient to growth.
