We GATHER For Worship
Acts 2:1-13
1. We are commanded to gather together.
“Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us
encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews
10:25
2. The purpose in gathering is to glorify God.
“Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the
heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of
the whole earth." Genesis 11:4
“Sing to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his
glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.” 1 Chronicles 16:23-24
3. The result of gathering to glorify God is power.
“The Lord said, "If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this,
then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.” Genesis 11:6
Philippians 2:10-11”That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on
earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory
of God the Father.”
“After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could
count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and
before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches
in their hands.” Revelation 7:9
“She named the boy Ichabod saying, ‘The glory has departed from Israel’-because of the
capture of the ark of God and the deaths of her father-in-law and her husband.”1 Samuel
4:21
