Materialism Steals Our Christmas

December 2, 2018 • Pastor Allen Bonnell

Un-Grinched: Materialism Steals Our Christmas    Having more things will make me more happy. Ecclesiastes 5:10, “Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless.”  Having more things will make me more important. Luke 12:15, “Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”  Having more things will make me more secure. Proverbs 18:11, “The wealth of the rich is their fortified city; they imagine it a wall too high to scale.” 1. Resist comparing to others. 2 Corinthians 10:12, 12 We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise. 2. Rejoice in God’s provision. Hebrews 13:5, 5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” 3. Return to God the first ten percent. Deuteronomy 14:23, “Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and olive oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the Lord your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere the Lord your God always.” 4. Refocus on the savior. 2 Colossians 3:2, “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
