The Gospel’s Impact on Work
Isaiah 58:3,6-7
3‘Why have we fasted,’ they say, ‘and you have not seen it? Why have we humbled ourselves, and you have not noticed?’
“Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please and exploit all your workers.
6“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free
and break every yoke?
7 Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
when you see the naked, to clothe them,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
The Gospel gives us a correct worldview for work
“Righteous people disadvantage themselves to advantage others. The wicked are willing to disadvantage the community to advantage themselves.” – Bruce Waltke
The Gospel empowers us in our work.
1 Corinthians 10:31
31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
The Gospel enables us to see work as an extension of our faith.
Colossians 3:23-24
23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
Acts 3:19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord
