Psalm 70

Psalm 70 is a short and poignant prayer for help, echoing the end of Psalm 40. To sing Psalm 70 we set lyrics by Bert Polman (©CRC Publications) to the melody “The Giver” (©2016 Joel Stamoolis). This recording features Joel Stamoolis on vocals and guitar, Maggie Chapman on flute, Ruth Schwartz on cello, and Lauryn Pealatere on percussion.

Psalm 83

Psalm 83 is a prayer for deliverance from the surrounding nations who are threatening to destroy Israel forever (Psalm 83:4). The prayer is not only that God would thwart their enemies plans, but also that he would do so in a way that these hostile nations would be humbled and seek the name of the LORD (Psalm 83:16). To sing this psalm we set lyrics from Sing Psalms (©2003 Free Church of Scotland) to an original melody and wrote a refrain based on the closing prayer of the song (Psalm 83:16-18). This recording features Joel Stamoolis on vocals and guitar, Anne-Renee Gumley on vocals and piano, Dennis DeWinter on bass guitar, Dale Tumey on tenor saxophone, and Igor Galloway on drums.

Psalm 82

In Psalm 82, God takes his place in the divine council, in the midst of the gods, and judges them for not bringing justice to the earth, for not maintaining the right of the afflicted, for not rescuing the weak and needy. Who are these rulers being addressed and judged? Angelic beings or human authorities? Or both? There is mystery here, a glimpse into the unseen realm. What is clear as we read and sing this psalm is that God cares about the needy, the afflicted, and the fatherless, that he is sovereign over all the earth, that he holds rulers accountable, and that he will ultimately bring justice and deliverance. To sing this psalm we set lyrics from Sing Psalms (©2003 Free Church of Scotland) to an original melody. This recording features Alyssa Foss and Andrea Sandefur on vocals, Anne-Renee Gumley on piano, and Joel Stamoolis on cello.

Psalm 81

Psalm 81 begins with a call to sing and make music to God, remembering his deliverance. The LORD God then speaks in the first person, reminding his people of his deliverance, lamenting their stubbornness, and them to listen to him that he may fill and satisfy them. To sing this psalm we set lyrics from Sing Psalms (©2003 Free Church of Scotland) to an original melody. This recording features Andrea Sandefur and Alyssa Foss on vocals, Anne-Renee Gumley on piano, and Joel Stamoolis on cello.
