In His sermons, Jesus called people to hear His words and do them. However, if we are to listen to the words of Jesus and allow them to shape our lives, we should be confident of His authority. This week we will examine the reality of Jesus’ authority over life and death and the implications it has for us.

Covetousness is the greedy desire for more that never knows the freedom, peace, and joy of simply saying, “I have enough.” Sometimes it is driven by a sense of injustice. Other times is fueled by an ever expanding appetite for pleasure. Often it is the harried press of worry that keeps us grasping for more. Whatever the type of greed there is only one way to deal with it: listen to Jesus. This will be our goal today.

Luke 11:37-12:12. Two dramatically different scenes. One central concern. Hypocrisy. It is a horrible and contagious sin that seldom looks awful initially and is rarely spread knowingly – even when it is at epidemic levels. It is the Ebola virus of the soul, and there is really only one way to deal with it: listen to Jesus.
Healthy Eyes and Bad Eyes

As Jesus journeyed to Jerusalem for the last time, the crowds grew and the reactions intensified as people who had only heard about him now actually saw him in action. Some marveled, others declared him demonic, and still others pressed him for a sign “from heaven”. He addressed the varied responses, and then he spoke about eyes that let light in and eyes that keep light out. Three proverbial sayings with one application: Be Careful!
