The Law Intro
A common thread of thought is that if there were no law there would be no crime. While that would be true, there would still be hurt, heartbreak, and sin. One of the major reasons why any society establishes laws is to help people live in such a way as to mitigate hurt. Think about a stop sign. A stop sign is put up so that we stop at a 4-way stop to safely cross the intersection. Think about the damage that could be done if someone chose to blow through that intersection at 90MPH. What if they hit a minivan packed with an entire family? So one thing any law provides is protection from hurt, but also shows us the heartbreak of right and wrong. Just as God's law shows us what breaks his heart. And what's interesting, is that in many cases, in many societies, basic laws and morality seem to mirror God's law. Almost as if God had embedded in us a sense of his right and wrong. After all, we were created in his image. Ultimately God's Law Gives us knowledge of sin. The law applies to those to whom it was given, for its purpose is to keep people from having excuses and to show that the entire world is guilty before God.
