Imagine having heard of and seen someone who makes miracles happen. What would you do? People heard about how Jesus had been performing miracles in many places. When Jesus came to Simonโs house, He healed his mother-in-law who had a high fever. When the fever left her, she rose and immediately began to serve people. This led the community to see Jesus as a miracle-worker, which led them to bring any who were sick to Him. In this passage, we will see the deeper implications of Jesus being our miracle-worker, even in seemingly impossible situations.

After seeing Simonโs mother-in-law healed by Jesus, people brought many sick people to Him (Luke 4:40). Jesus healed each one and delivered people from spiritual oppression. As a doctor, the author of the Gospel wrote about these miracles, showing that he believed in Jesusโ power and ability to heal. People were drawn to Jesus when He saw, felt, and met their needs. What are the physical and spiritual needs you have seen Jesus meet in your life and in others?

In this passage, people needed to be healed from their sicknesses. However, Jesus did not just address their sickness and deliver them from spiritual oppression. He was about to leave them, saying that He must also preach about the kingdom of God to other towns. But before that, He revealed Himself to them and opened their eyes to the gospelโthe answer to their greatest need. His ultimate goal was to seek and save the lost through His sacrifice on the cross. In the same way, Jesus does not only perform miracles in our lives today, but ultimately the good news of the kingdom of God is to be preached in order for people to be saved. How do you think God can use His miracles in your life to reach others with the gospel?

โข As God works miracles in your life, pray that you would be a conduit of His miracles to others, too. Pray for opportunities to bless one person this week and share your testimony of how God met your needs to him/her.
