In the Hebrew tradition, priests made daily sacrifices for their own sins and then for the peopleโs sins. The priests were mortal, and the sacrifices were imperfect which was why they had to be done daily. Before, only the priests could enter the holy presence of God, granted that they did myriads of cleansing rituals. For God to restore holiness to His people, an eternal priest and a perfect sacrifice were needed. This is why the Father sent His Son, Jesus Christ, through whom we can share in Godโs holiness.

Because humans are fallen and sinful in nature, it is impossible to pass a single day without a sinful thought or action. So the priests needed to offer sacrifices daily both for themselves and for the peopleโs sin. However, every sacrifice done by humans fell short of Godโs holiness in some way. Because Jesus was without sin, He was the perfect sacrifice who paid the penalty of sin in full for all of us. Therefore, all of us who have put our faith in Jesus have been completely forgiven of all of our sins and have a right standing with God. Only an eternal priest and a perfect sacrifice could have made us right with God. Because of Godโs love for every person, He did not allow us to live in sin and die without hope. He sent His own Son to become the perfect sacrifice. Jesus is also the eternal priest who speaks on our behalf to God at every moment of the day. Through this, God restores our holiness and our right relationship with Him. Now, we can draw confidently to God, knowing that Jesus is our perfect and permanent High Priest.
