𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘵𝘩 𝘶𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘺 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘺 𝘮𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩, 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘺 𝘩𝘰𝘱𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘳𝘶𝘭𝘦𝘴. . . . 𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘬 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘵𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘱𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘮𝘦 . . . 𝗣𝗦𝗔𝗟𝗠 𝟭𝟭𝟵:𝟰𝟯,𝟰𝟲

God’s word is not just meant to be thought of, read, or understood. It is meant to be spoken and heard—benefiting us personally and corporately. The word of God is powerful when it is preached, proclaimed, and prophesied. We are to testify of God’s work and faithfulness to others. In this lesson, we will look at how the Psalmist viewed and spoke of God’s word—as a source of hope, truth, and boldness.

𝟭. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲.
𝘓𝘦𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘧𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘦, 𝘖 𝘓𝘖𝘙𝘋, 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘦; 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘩𝘪𝘮 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘵𝘢𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘮𝘦, 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘐 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥. 𝗣𝗦𝗔𝗟𝗠 𝟭𝟭𝟵:𝟰𝟭-𝟰𝟮

Every difficult situation is an opportunity for us to put our faith in and declare God’s word. The Psalmist could give an answer to what he was facing through God’s word. Every challenge and question we face will find their answers in the word of God. How do you know you trust something? What does trusting in God’s word look like?

𝟮. 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗚𝗼𝗱’𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱, 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵.
𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘵𝘩 𝘶𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘺 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘺 𝘮𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩, 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘺 𝘩𝘰𝘱𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘳𝘶𝘭𝘦𝘴. 𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘬𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘭𝘢𝘸 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺, 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘬 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘸𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦, 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘦𝘱𝘵𝘴. 𝗣𝗦𝗔𝗟𝗠 𝟭𝟭𝟵:𝟰𝟯-𝟰𝟱

The Psalmist knew the benefits of speaking God’s word—its truth gives us hope, sustains us, and allows us to walk in freedom and security. Knowing that His word never fails, we have the confidence to stand on and speak God’s truth. In the New Testament, how did Jesus respond to and overcome the lies of the enemy (Matthew 4:4)?

𝟯. 𝗪𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗚𝗼𝗱’𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗲.
𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘬 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘵𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘱𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘮𝘦, 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘐 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘺 𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴, 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘐 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦. 𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘵 𝘶𝘱 𝘮𝘺 𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘵𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴, 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘐 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘰𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘵𝘦𝘴. 𝗣𝗦𝗔𝗟𝗠 𝟭𝟭𝟵:𝟰𝟲-𝟰𝟴

God’s word has great value and is not something to be ashamed of. When we speak His word to others—even to kings and those in authority—we will not be put to shame. On our own, we may feel unqualified or unable. But in Christ, we can be unafraid and unashamed to preach the gospel because of Christ’s finished work on the cross. How does Hebrews 4:12 describe God’s word? How does it work?

The word of God is to fill our words. As we learn and meditate on God’s word, may we also be empowered to speak His truth to those around us.

𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡
• Take some time this week to evaluate the words you speak. What is it based on? How can you speak the word in growing measure?
• Commit Psalm 119:46-47 to memory: 𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘬 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘵𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘱𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘮𝘦, 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘐 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘺 𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴, 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘐 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦. Repeat it several times and make it your prayer this week.

𝗣𝗥𝗔𝗬𝗘𝗥
• Pray Psalm 119:41–42. Lift up your challenges and questions to God and ask God to give you wisdom and insight through His word.
• Pray for God's word to be preached, proclaimed, and prophesied through you and the church in your family, community, and nation.
• Ask God for opportunities to speak God's word to kings and prominent persons in authority. Trust God to give you the words to speak.
