A Charge to Obey

𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗗 “𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘰, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘪𝘱𝘭𝘺, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘨𝘰 𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘖𝘙𝘋 𝘴𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴.” 𝗗𝗘𝗨𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗢𝗠𝗬 𝟴:𝟭 In his last message to the Israelite nation in Deuteronomy, Moses addressed them before they entered the Promised Land. He reminded them that they had a covenant relationship with the Lord their God. This covenant or agreement, which God Himself initiated out of His lovingkindness, encompassed all areas of their lives. One important aspect of that covenant is highlighted in this passage—God’s promise to provide for His people. God had given this promise to Abraham long before He admonished the Israelites to carefully obey His commands. Moses charged them to keep their end of the covenant, knowing that God would be faithful to keep His. Today, we will look at what God promised and the Israelites’ part in receiving this promise. 𝟭. 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲. “𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘰, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘪𝘱𝘭𝘺, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘨𝘰 𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘖𝘙𝘋 𝘴𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴.” 𝗗𝗘𝗨𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗢𝗠𝗬 𝟴:𝟭 God wanted the Israelites to understand that before any of them were born, His heart was already set on blessing them. He wanted them to 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦 and 𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘪𝘱𝘺—be fruitful not just in numbers, but in the quality of life. It was God’s will for His people to thrive and He was bringing them to a place where that could happen. Today, God still promises fruitfulness and provision to anyone who trusts Him. How has God made you fruitful and provided for you and your family? 𝟮. 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝘂𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗚𝗼𝗱’𝘀 𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴. “𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘰, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘪𝘱𝘭𝘺, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘨𝘰 𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘖𝘙𝘋 𝘴𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴.” 𝗗𝗘𝗨𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗢𝗠𝗬 𝟴:𝟭 God’s blessing is not something we deserve or can earn. When we obey Him, we are fulfilling our end of the covenant. This obedience is an act of faith that places us in a position to receive all He has for us. When we obey, we are declaring that we trust God and rest on His covenant promises. According to Isaiah 1:19, what will happen if we are willing to listen to God and obey Him? 𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 • What are some promises and instructions God has given believers through His word? Spend time meditating on Deuteronomy 8 this week. Ask God for insights into His word. • How has God been faithful to you and provided for your needs? What did you learn today and how does this apply to your situation? • Think of a family member or friend who could use your encouragement this week. How can you pray for and encourage him or her that God is faithful to fulfill His promises and that our obedience in faith places us in a position to receive His blessing? 𝗣𝗥𝗔𝗬𝗘𝗥 • Thank God for His covenant faithfulness to His people. Pray that you would have a growing understanding of this every day. • Ask God for the grace to obey Him, and trust that this obedience is an act of faith that places you in a position to receive His blessing. Lift up your needs and concerns to Him, and trust Him for miraculous provision. • Pray that you would be a channel of God’s blessing to others and an example of faith and obedience.

𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘭𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘰𝘵 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘺 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴.” 𝗗𝗘𝗨𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗢𝗠𝗬 𝟴:𝟮–𝟰 God knew His people. Time and again, they had been unfaithful and tended to trust idols. Before they entered the land God had promised to give them, He charged them through Moses to remember Him and all He had done for them. God humbled them so they would understand that man does not live on bread alone. He provided food that no one had seen before and could not store for the next day, so that they would depend on Him totally for daily nourishment. He disciplined them as a father to his son because He wanted them to walk in His ways and receive His blessings. Today, we will look at three things God admonished His people to remember about their time in the wilderness. 𝟭. 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗚𝗼𝗱’𝘀 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲. “𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘖𝘙𝘋 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘎𝘰𝘥 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘺 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶, 𝘵𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘰 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵, 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘬𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘳 𝘯𝘰𝘵.” 𝗗𝗘𝗨𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗢𝗠𝗬 𝟴:𝟮 For forty years, God guided and sustained His people in the wilderness. God used their journey to humble and test them, to expose to them what He already knew was in their hearts. Moses charged the Israelites to remember how God had been faithful to them. Today, God guides us, humbles us, and allows our hearts to be tested, even as we wait for His promises to be fulfilled. How can we recognize and remember God’s guidance in our daily lives? 𝟮. 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗚𝗼𝗱’𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻. “𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘶𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘦𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘢, 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸, 𝘯𝘰𝘳 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘣𝘺 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘦, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘣𝘺 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘖𝘙𝘋.” 𝗗𝗘𝗨𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗢𝗠𝗬 𝟴:𝟯 The Israelites were taught that God was their source. When they were hungry, God fed them by sending manna and quail (Exodus 16). They did not know what manna was, only that God was giving it to them to keep them from starving. All that time in the wilderness, God was faithful to provide for them. God provides for us today as He did for the Israelites. His blessings are not limited to material things. He wants us to 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘣𝘺 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘖𝘙𝘋. He wants us to have a meaningful and abundant life. How have you seen God provide for you and your family? 𝟯. 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗚𝗼𝗱’𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. “𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘭𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘰𝘵 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘺 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴.” 𝗗𝗘𝗨𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗢𝗠𝗬 𝟴:𝟰 God was faithful to His covenant with the Israelites. He was mindful not only of their greatest needs, but also of the small things that brought them comfort. It was a miracle in itself that forty years of wandering in the wilderness did not cause their clothing to be damaged. Aside from that, their feet did not swell during the journey. God may not have given the Israelites new clothes, but He preserved what they had for four decades. In the same way, God not only provides for our needs; He also preserves us and what He has already provided us with. He doesn’t leave us on our own—He sustains us. According to Proverbs 10:22, what does God do when He provides? How have you seen this to be true in your life? Commit to trust Him always. • Ask God for opportunities and the courage to tell others about His faithfulness and provision for you and your family.

A Charge to Trust

𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗠-𝗨𝗣 • Growing up, who did you think was the most powerful in your family or community? Why? • To be considered wealthy, what do you think a person should have or own? Why? • Recall a time when you didn’t heed a warning. What happened? 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗗 “𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘖𝘙𝘋 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘎𝘰𝘥, 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘮 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴, 𝘢𝘴 𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘥𝘢𝘺.” 𝗗𝗘𝗨𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗢𝗠𝗬 𝟴:𝟭𝟴 For forty years, the Israelites depended completely on God for their survival. 𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗚𝗼𝗱. “𝘉𝘦𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘢𝘺 𝘪𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵, ‘𝘔𝘺 𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘺 𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩.’” 𝗗𝗘𝗨𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗢𝗠𝗬 𝟴:𝟭𝟳 Everything the Israelites had in the wilderness and would have in the Promised Land was from God. This provision was based on His power and ability. Moses assured them that there would be abundance in the land God was bringing them into (Deuteronomy 8:12–13), but warned them not to believe it was their own power that had brought them wealth and abundant resources. They were to put their trust in God, who gave them this power. We, too, should fix our eyes on our Provider, not our own strength and power. When all our needs are met, it is easy to forget that everything we have is from God. We have to continue to depend on Him and seek His guidance. 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵. “𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘖𝘙𝘋 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘎𝘰𝘥, 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩 . . .” 𝗗𝗘𝗨𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗢𝗠𝗬 𝟴:𝟭𝟴 The God who led the Israelites in the wilderness by miraculously providing food, water, and shelter for them is the same God who promised to give them the power to get wealth. Like the Israelites, God will give us the power and ability we need—including skills, ideas, and opportunities—so that we can produce wealth. He wants us to come to Him and acknowledge His presence in our lives not just in times of lack, but also in times of plenty. How is God enabling you to produce wealth? Why is it important to trust God not only in times of difficulty but also in times when we have more than we need? 𝟯. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻𝘁. “𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘖𝘙𝘋 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘎𝘰𝘥, 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘮 𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴, 𝘢𝘴 𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘥𝘢𝘺.” 𝗗𝗘𝗨𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗢𝗠𝗬 𝟴:𝟭𝟴 God’s promise to provide for and prosper the Israelites is a confirmation of the 𝘤𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘦 to their fathers. God promised to bring Abraham into the land that He showed him. He promised to bless Abraham and make his name great (Genesis 12:1–3). Hundreds of years later, Abraham’s descendants entered that Promised Land. God is faithful and will always be true to His promises. In the same way that He was faithful to the Israelites, we can be assured that God will faithfully provide for anyone who trusts in Him. 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗗 “𝘕𝘰𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘦𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘶𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘥𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘖𝘙𝘋 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘎𝘰𝘥 𝘪𝘴 𝘥𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘖𝘙𝘋 𝘴𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴, 𝘵𝘰 𝘈𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘮, 𝘵𝘰 𝘐𝘴𝘢𝘢𝘤, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘑𝘢𝘤𝘰𝘣.” 𝗗𝗘𝗨𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗢𝗠𝗬 𝟵:𝟱 God, through Moses, was making it clear to the Israelites that He had a purpose for bringing them into the good land He promised to their forefathers. He was ending the wickedness in those nations and bringing His people in to fulfill His great plan and mission—not just for their nation, but for the entire world. He would fulfill this through His covenant with Abraham and his descendants. Before they entered this Promised Land, Moses charged them to stay focused on this mission. God would pour out His abundant blessing, and He would use it to accomplish His mission. Today, we will look at two truths about the blessing of God. 𝟭. 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘂𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗳 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝘁. “𝘕𝘰𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘦𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘶𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘥𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘖𝘙𝘋 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘎𝘰𝘥 𝘪𝘴 𝘥𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘖𝘙𝘋 𝘴𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴, 𝘵𝘰 𝘈𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘮, 𝘵𝘰 𝘐𝘴𝘢𝘢𝘤, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘑𝘢𝘤𝘰𝘣. 𝘒𝘯𝘰𝘸, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘖𝘙𝘋 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘎𝘰𝘥 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘦𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴, 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘢 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘣𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘯 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦.” 𝗗𝗘𝗨𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗢𝗠𝗬 𝟵:𝟱–𝟲 The Israelites didn’t always obey and trust God. Even after experiencing God’s awesome miracles, they grumbled and complained against Moses, and ultimately, against God. Moses reminded them that they didn’t deserve God’s blessing and that they were a 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘣𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘯 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦. But he also assured them that God would bless them anyway. We, too, will be blessed by God not because of our own merits, but because of His faithfulness. We can never earn His blessing and provision. It is something He chose to give freely to anyone who would put their trust in Him. How was God’s ultimate provision demonstrated on the cross? What does Romans 8:32 say about our salvation and God’s grace and provision? 𝟮. 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴. “𝘕𝘰𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘦𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘶𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘥𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘖𝘙𝘋 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘎𝘰𝘥 𝘪𝘴 𝘥𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘖𝘙𝘋 𝘴𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴, 𝘵𝘰 𝘈𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘮, 𝘵𝘰 𝘐𝘴𝘢𝘢𝘤, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘑𝘢𝘤𝘰𝘣.” 𝗗𝗘𝗨𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗢𝗠𝗬 𝟵:𝟱 God promised to make Abraham’s name great so that he would 𝘣𝘦 𝘢 𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 and that through him, 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘩 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘥 (Genesis 12:1–3). God had a higher purpose for bringing the Israelites into the Promised Land—to bless all families from every tribe and nation. Through Abraham, people would know who God is and what a covenant relationship with Him looks like. This was ultimately accomplished through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, as all who put their faith in Him become partakers of this promised covenant and its blessings (Galatians 3:13–14). In the same way, God’s provision in our lives is not just for our enjoyment. He wants us to be a blessing to people around us—our family, community, nation, and even to other nations—primarily by proclaiming the gospel and using our God-given blessings in obedience to the Great Commission.
