The Discipline of Self-Denial

Abstinence is the discipline of denying yourself something in order to reposition Jesus Christ in your life. This will begin to train yourself to be more responsive to God and less responsive to the temporal things of the flesh. Denying yourself something during Lent will give you something additional to celebrate on Resurrection Sunday; not only has Jesus Christ risen from the dead, but His life caused something new to rise up in you.

Personal Sin and the Believer

The disciple of Jesus Christ is no longer called a sinner but righteous. It’s a new identity that, if embraced, releases you from the power of sin. It is extremely self-defeating to embrace a sinful identity. Embracing a sin-identity instead of dealing properly with sin will cause decay, decline and death to have a foothold that is not proper or necessary for the believer.
