Tune In

Blended • September 27, 2020 • Bill Brunson

Read Luke 28-36 In this 3-week sermon series, Proceed with Caution, the stories and words of Jesus have guided us into a new way of dealing with our noisy and chaotic world. 1) In what ways have you learned to tune out the negative noise of your life? Give an example. In what ways have you learned to tame your tongue? Give an example. 2) In the Transfiguration story, God tells us to “listen to Him (Jesus).” Why do we sometimes overlook this command when studying this story? 3) What changes can you implement in your life that will allow you to “tune in” or listen more closely to Jesus? 4) How would your life be different, if you listened to Jesus before you act, speak, text, or click on the send icon? 5) How would your life be different if you not only listened more closely to Jesus, but also to the people in your life?

Read Matthew 16: 21-23 2) Peter tended to talk first and think later. Have you ever been guilty with the same approach? How have you tried to talk less and listen more? 3) How many times in your life would Jesus have looked at you and said, “Get behind me Satan. You are a stumbling block to me; your mind is on earthly things?” Reflect on these moments and how you can guard against them. Read James 3:2-5 4) There’s an old saying “Sticks and stones may break my bones, words can never hurt me.” Is this true? If so, what influence does it have on your behavior? 5) What positive words do your friends and acquaintances need to hear from you this week? How can you remember to say these things? Read John 8:3-11 6) Do you believe love is always stronger than words? Give some examples from scripture or your own life. 7) Where are the places in your life where you need to talk less and love more?
