In our American culture, being asked to be a servant can make us cringe, and being asked to be a slave is totally unacceptable. Yet many writers of New Testament books refer to themselves as slaves to Christ. Being a slave means not being your own. In Christ we are given a new name and a new identity, and there is absolute freedom in being owned by him.
