Sabbath Worship Experience | "Sabbath and Worship"

June 8, 2024 • Pastor Jonathan Henderson

With establishing the Sabbath as a gift and holiday in celebration of His creation, after 400 hard years of slavery God must reestablish with Israel the Sabbath’s significance, not just as a day of rest for recognition, but as a necessary lawful day of rest and replenishment. Yet as much as we’ve come to understand these first primary purposes of the Sabbath, how did it become known as “the day of worship”? This week we answer that question, uncovering how and why worship plays a special part on this day of rest. Please join us for part three of our Sabbath series.

Sabbath is very near and dear to Seventh-day Adventist Christians as a doctrine, as evidenced by our name. As we’ve already been learning in our current series, it covers a wide range of doctrinal ground, from our humble beginnings of learning the importance of the Sabbath to understanding its prophetic implications. Yet it appears that we're just now getting to the heart of the Sabbath. Could it be that in our exclusive focus on the Sabbath and our defense of it, we may have missed something that is far more important than our typical doctrinal emphasis? Let’s strive to discover a deeper Truth about the Sabbath as we continue this series.

Sabbath Worship Experience | "Sabbath and Jesus"

In the last three weeks we have seen the significance the Sabbath was intended to serve in our lives as a memorial of creation, a day of rest and replenishment, and a day for special gatherings of community, friends, and family. Yet many Christians have asserted the Sabbath is no longer needed or required due to Jesus ministry, death and resurrection, citing Colossians 2:16, 17: " Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.  These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ." This week we’ll study this passage and more, to discover if the Sabbath is indeed now expendable in Christ or. . . enhanced.

Sabbath Worship Experience | "Sabbath and Sin"

Last week we discovered the original purpose of the seventh-day Sabbath (the very first holiday). It is a gift in celebration of God’s creation; a celebration of you. So how does the Sabbath go from being a gift to being a law etched in stone? This week we unpack the aftermath of the sin committed in Eden, and why after roughly 2500 years of human brokenness, the Sabbath must be reintroduced as law. Be certain to join us tomorrow for “Sabbath and Sin.”
