With establishing the Sabbath as a gift and holiday in celebration of His creation, after 400 hard years of slavery God must reestablish with Israel the Sabbath’s significance, not just as a day of rest for recognition, but as a necessary lawful day of rest and replenishment. Yet as much as we’ve come to understand these first primary purposes of the Sabbath, how did it become known as “the day of worship”?
