Jesus keeps saying over and over in this passage — that He is from the Father and that He speaks what the Father speaks. But things come to a point in verse 28 where He finally tells how it is that they will eventually come face to face with what they cannot see.

There is one main truth in this scripture passage. The blindness gives the acts of God the ability to be revealed in Jesus. This kind of thing can only have meaning connected to God. Jesus says that the purpose of the blindness is to showcase the acts of God. So, God must be the highest value for us. More valuable than health and life.

The Truth

Many believed in Jesus but He leaves things open to whether or not He thinks they have real faith and tells them how they can know if it is real. Something happens that makes Jesus say that some of these believers are not authentic believers. A refusal to hear His words and a desire to kill him is the key.

Deathlessness

Jesus is saying, If you obey my teachings — if you believe what I say about myself, and my Father, and our work of salvation — you will never see death. You won’t experience death. John 11:25–26. Jesus says to Martha at Lazarus’ grave: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live even if he dies, and the one who lives and believes in me will never die.” Your body dies, but you live.
