For these men to bow before the idol would require displacing their confidence and faith in the only Living God and they rightly chose to courageously stand for the Living God and face death.

Daniel's life provides such encouragement. As a young man, Daniel and most of his countrymen were carried away in captivity to serve as slaves i the Babylonian empire under King Nebuchadnezzar. He lived 70 years as a slave and never returned to his homeland, yet he maintained his godly character in the midst of a terrible circumstance.
